Absolute Elsewhere - Playground.

Absolute Elsewhere
Playground
(Jambo)

Absolute Elsewhere proved to be as apposite a band name as possible as the music climate changed to a more homespun aggressive nature with punk’s musical grenade blowing up all known scenes. Timing is everything, not only in the interplay of musicians, but in the commercial marketing of records. The commercial market moved swiftly into this new genre leaving behind albums such as this which is only now seeing the light of day after deep hatches were battened down like a nuclear bunker retreat.
Signed by legendary Beatles publicist Derek Taylor, to the Warners label, this second band release built upon the experimental nature of their debut release which included peripatetic percussion player par- excellence, Bill Bruford and the quality of personnel, including Paul Fishman, ensured that the musicianship never sank below exacting expectations. As is the case here with King Crimson alumni Andrew McCulloch taking over on the drum stool.
Progressive, electronic and experimental with banks of mellotrons to boot, Playground is a charming lost oddity awaiting re-discovery. It would be assessed as a  valuable find if it was an object on Antiques Roadshow. It’s a musical museum piece back on display.
