Belfast Alt-Rockers Wynona Bleach Release ‘I Deserve That’ Single via Fierce Panda Records

Sophomore album out 2025

Wynona Bleach: Melyssa Shannon: Vocals, Jonny Woods: Guitar / Vocals, James Foy: Drums, Carl Gilmore: Bass

Blending alternative rock, shoegaze, and power pop, Wynona Bleach are a fierce and feisty four-piece band from Belfast, Northern Ireland. In 2021, they signed with the iconic indie label fierce panda (known for Coldplay, Placebo, and Death Cab For Cutie). Early 2022 saw the release of their debut album, “Moonsoake,” a vibrant and passionately charged collection that delves into themes of heartache and emotional turmoil. The band released “I Deserve That,” the second single from their upcoming, yet-to-be-titled sophomore album on 7th October 2024.

Formed in 2018 as “R51,” Wynona Bleach has achieved a helluva lot, including performances at Reading & Leeds Festival, a 12-date headline tour of Russia, and supporting acts like Feeder. They were nominated for the Northern Ireland Music Prize for both Album and Live Act in 2022, and their winter tour ended with two shows at the Other Voices Festival.

Debut album “Moonsoake” was recorded after Wynona Bleach supported rock legends Alice in Chains on their sold-out 2019 Irish tour. Produced with Bill Ryder-Jones in a Portuguese factory, no less, the album features tracks mixed by Grammy-nominated Andy Bradfield and Avril Mackintosh. 2023, saw band playing live sessions on BBC Sounds, performing at SXSW and New Colossus Festivals in the USA, and supporting fellow Belfast band and absolute Indie rock legends Ash on their UK and European tour. Now, it is 2024, the band are puting the finishing touches to the next album – (details coming soon!) - and will hit the road on tour this October’24.

I Deserve That,” is a cautionary tale about the cultural bin fire that exists around the chronically online and how important it is to touch base with the ‘real’ and natural world. Guitarist Jonny Woods says: “it’s a track about brain rot and how social media and tv can be poisonous and make you feel worthless and bad about yourself, and how you should go outside, and touch grass every once in a while.” Amen to that. We can see the damage and fall out this ‘disease’ has caused all around us, every day.

To underscore this sentiment, the upcoming video will be taking a hard swipe at how YouTube and podcast culture can warp young people into political and religious extremism when, really, they should go outside with real friends, meet new people and have real, personal connections, as opposed to virtual ones. I mean, let’s breathe, be real, have genuine discourse! Ditch the BS!

Wynona Bleach deliver glorious sounds of indie alternative rock, echoing vibes of The Smashing Pumpkins, Curve, The Joy Formidable, and Wolf Alice, but with their own unique twist. If “I Deserve That” is any clue to the music on the forthcoming album, then get ready for a blend of loud, raucous energy, unmistakably bold hooks, lush melodies and all the sass and ‘bubblegrunge’ beauty you can possibly handle! On top of that this band totally rock the world off its axis at their gigs. Go on! Do yourself a favour and go see them at a venue near you…..
