Progressive Musician Duncan Parsons Releases His Retrospective Collection ‘I’m Here, All Weak’ 06/10/23.

Multi-instrumentalist Duncan Parsons has been caught up in Progressive music for as long as he can remember. Folk, funk, rock, pop, minimalism and jazz, from Stackridge to Steve Reich via Supertramp to Gentle Giant… Following appearances on a handful of albums in the 90s, mostly working with Marc Catley and the obscure, but critically regarded, Paley’s Watch project, there is a gap in Duncan’s CV while his family grew up. Between 2012 and 2022 six albums of solo material were released, alongside writing and playing with the John Hackett Band, and involvement in the production of many other album projects.

2012’s Abandoned Buildings marked a return to music-making with an ambitious 18-track concept album with a narrative arc of grace against a backdrop of falling in love and failing in love. It was critically well received: “…mixes a dry wit with a wonderfully observant line in lyrics, this is an album that will both delight and provoke thought in equal measures.” (The Waiting Room). “He possesses the ability to make restrained ideas have more impact than first impressions would have you believe.” (Sea Of Tranquillity). Ten years on, 2022’s On Earth, As It Is continued to garner praise – “a fantastic album…this is a must-have for the lover of complex prog rock. (98/100) Esther Kessel-Tamerus; “…full of brilliant music” Paul Davies, Fireworks Magazine; ‘a highly intelligent and articulate album” John Wenlock-Smith, Progradar, and being included in ‘Best Of 2022’ lists.

I’m Here, All Weak is a new retrospective offering up a selection of tunes from six official solo albums, including original recordings, new mixes, edits, or new versions, alongside two previously unreleased pieces. Across the tracks there are appearances from Leland Sklar, Steve Hackett, John Helliwell, Gary Boyle, Nick Fletcher, Ton Scherpenzeel, Raul D’Oliveira, Bill Bruford and others. Released on the 6th October 2023, I’m Here, All Weak will be available via Duncan’s Bandcamp page for both digital and physical editions, plus all major outlets. Duncan can be regularly found with his guitar at acoustic gigs, playing drums with the John Hackett Band and on bass with Joanne Harris’ Storytime Band.
